The New & Improved Shell fuels have been developed and tested by Shell’s international team of about 150 fuel scientists and engineers, over the course of five years leveraging both their expert knowledge and more than 100 years long heritage in innovation. The cleaning and engine efficiency of the fuels have also been demonstrated through rigorous industry standard and Shell proprietary tests.
There are many stages of testing before we’re ready to share a new product with our customers, from the conception of an idea through to the delivery of the fuel and finally to the pumps. The first round of testing predominantly takes place in the laboratory, where we investigate a vast array of formulations. The ones that look most promising then go on to bench engine testing, which involves an engine being taken out of a vehicle and being operated under tightly controlled test conditions - this eliminates as many experimental conditions and variables as possible.
After that, we test the fuel in a real vehicle, on a rolling road – also known as a chassis dynamometer which represents road driving conditions but in a more tightly controlled environment. The final stage of testing involves us using the products in a trial in vehicles under real road conditions.

Shell expressly disclaims responsibility for any adverse effects that may result from the use or application of the ethanol blended fuel in the customer’s vehicle(s). The Customer understands and agrees that usage of ethanol blended fuel above the prescribed limit as per respective vehicle OEM recommendations could result in permanent damage to the vehicle engine and might also make the vehicle insurance void. Accordingly, the Customer is procuring the ethanol blended fuel after being fully aware of its implications, if any on its vehicle health, warranty and insurance.
Under no circumstances shall company, its subsidiaries, or affiliates or the directors, officers, employees, or other representatives of each of them (collectively, the “company entities and individuals”) be liable to the Customer for any loss or damages of any kind (including, without limitation, for any special, direct, indirect, incidental, exemplary, economic, punitive, or consequential damages that are directly or indirectly related to usage of ethanol blended fuel in the Customer’s vehicle(s), even if foreseeable or even if the company entities and individuals have been advised of the possibility of such damages whether in an action of contract, negligence, strict liability and/ or tort. In no event will the company entities and individuals be liable to the Customer or anyone else for loss or injury, including, without limitation, death or personal injury.
