How to Apply
Interested startups can apply to the Shell E4 program by completing the application provided in this link. The link will direct the applicant to an online application form that will ask for specific details with respect to their business idea, model/solution, contribution to India’s energy scenario, feasibility in the Indian market and personal information.
The application is open for all the tracks for startups with innovative business models, technology ideas and products. The selection process has different stages and there is a multi-level screening process involved. All the selected startups shall be notified at the end of the screening round. The application process
The Shell E4 (Energizing and Enabling Energy Entrepreneurs) programme is open to entrepreneurs and start-ups with innovative business models, technology ideas, and products. The E4 Startup Programme offers tracks for startups at various maturity levels; however, the start-up should be in the post-lab PoC stage (typically TRL level 4–7) with the potential to impact the future of energy. We will work with the selected cohort for a period of 3–8 months, depending on the program, with extensions available for up to 2 years. Participants will have access to Shell’s capabilities in technology development and product commercialization, along with mentorship.

The selection process
The selection process
The evaluation process consists of the following stages:
1. Initial Screening of Applications
A multi-level screening process is conducted to assess eligibility against predefined criteria. Applications are reviewed over multiple rounds and scored based on screening guidelines. All shortlisted start-ups will be notified at the end of this stage. Applicants who do not meet the criteria will not proceed to the next round.
2. Due Diligence
Selected start-ups will undergo an audit to verify all relevant facts, including financial records and any other material information deemed necessary.
3. Final Selection Criteria
Start-ups will be evaluated based on four high-level criteria:
- Potential for Significant Value Generation
- Alignment with Shell Ventures’ Themes, India Country Strategy, and Shell Business Priorities
Shell and its program partners aim to provide tangible value beyond funding. - Unique Business Model and/or Technology
- A strong team that understands its market, product, strengths, and weaknesses, and is open to coaching and mentorship.
